Aqualyx® is a phosphatidylcholine free solution, in which the principal-agent which leads to the destruction of the fat cells is a detergent (weakened sodium deoxycholate). Aqualyx®, thanks to its easy transdermal delivery, provokes cellular lysis releasing cellular debris and triglycerides,which are progressively disposed of by the monocyte-macrophage system and drain into the lymphatic system.
The active substance contained in Aqualyx, deoxycholic acid (DCA), is a naturally occurring secondary bile acid that has an essential function concerning the digestion of fat. In order to minimise the occurrence of side effects linked to DCA injection into the tissue, this active substance is encased within an agarose gel and a saline buffer, and it is present at a lower concentration that other so-called “lipolytic agents”, making Aqualyx a very safe product but without losing its efficacy as a fat dissolving agent.
